Emerson’s Journalism news service did a story this month on our “Reset for Kids” game tournament benefiting Child’s Play, which raised over $300 for the charity in one Friday night the week before finals.

Read it here. Thanks to our campus media for the love!

Microsoft XNA GameDev Day Boston this Sat!

by John Richardson

We have a very important notice about a FREE Microsoft XNA/Game Dev event this Saturday at Harvard. There will be a workshop by two XNA evangelists on developing for PC and Xbox 360, which I of course need not mention, is directly related to what we’ll be doing production-wise this Spring! The tutorial “Creating Your First XNA Game”, will likely be of higher quality than we can give as yet here on Campus. I am therefore not only going to recommend this for anyone interested in the design/tech side of our development but borderline require it. Afterwards, there will be a free lunch and some panels including some people that I know personally, so I can attest to their ability and helpfulness (some have helped us at Emerson in the past).

There’s also a Halo 3 tourney running simultaneously, but we like to pretend that abomination doesn’t exist.

The event runs from 10:15am – 4pm THIS Saturday at Emerson Hall (ironic) at Harvard. I realize that this is early for a Saturday, however I can’t understate the importance of getting out into the “real world” as an addendum to what we do on-campus. It often energizes and inspires. Did I mention they’ll be giving away free games?

I will be meeting any interested GameDev’ers at 9:45am in the lobby of the Little Building for a group trek to the event. Off-campus folks are welcome to meet us there. Please email me soon (john_richardson at emerson dot edu) if you will be coming. Once again, I am strongly recommending this for many of our folks!

Lastly, due to the length of the event, we’ll be having a later meeting than usual in the 3DL at 4:30pm. We will be discussing who’s doing what at next week’s Child’s Play tourney and recapping the XNA event.

Thanks go to our advisor, Prof. Brooke Knight, for the heads up!

See you bright and early Saturday! ;)

First Fall 07 Meeting this Tuesday!

20/09/2007 02:37 AM
by John Richardson

Our first meeting for the Fall will be this Tues, 9/23, 7-8pm in Walker 210 (it’s at the end of the hallway when going right off elevators).

It will be both a general meeting as well as an informational one for the newbies! We’ll be talking about the many different things that will be going on in GameDev for Fall 07, in particular how our overall “format” is being overhauled (in addition to how workshops, meetings, and teams will work). You can’t miss it!

We look forward to seeing everyone there and having some fun! :)
